Election board to create Zoom account to comply with livestream requirement; staff eyes move to city clerk space

St. Joseph County election staff told the board that a legislative change effective July 1 requires meetings to be livestreamed and that the county election board does not yet have a Zoom account. The board approved creating a Zoom account for the election board and paying for it from the boards budget.
Staff said the change in law requires compliance going forward and that creating a Zoom account would be a straightforward administrative fix. A motion to establish the Zoom account was made, seconded and passed by voice vote.
Staff also reported several administrative updates: the speaker was recently elected president of the Northern District of the Indiana Circuit Court Clerks Association for a one-year term and had been invited to serve on the Indiana Executive Council on Cybersecurity in Elections. Finally, staff said the city clerks office has available space directly across from the voter registration and elections office and that relocating some or all operations there would improve storage for absentee equipment and consolidate functions; staff asked the commissioners to make a timely decision so election preparations would not be delayed.
Board members asked whether the space was immediately usable; staff said the space could be occupied with no modifications and that a decision would need to be made promptly to accommodate upcoming election logistics.
