Council places one‑year Lopez Solid Waste levy on November ballot

Acting as the governing board for the Lopez Solid Waste Disposal District (LSWDD), San Juan County Council Sept. 23 approved a resolution to place a one‑year property tax levy on the November general election ballot.
Lopez Solid Waste Director Rick Carr said the requested levy would cover roughly one‑third of the district’s operating revenue needs. Carr told the board the revenue would support aging equipment replacement, increased tipping fees (Skagit County), and higher labor costs including wages and insurance. He said the amount is the same levy the community supported in 2025 and that the district hopes for similar voter support this year.
The council voted to place the proposition on the Nov. 2025 ballot; the measure will appear as a Lopez Solid Waste Disposal District proposition for voter consideration.
