The Lenexa City Council unanimously approved a five‑year special use permit to legalize Sozo Therapy Group, a medical clinic operating at 13000 West 80th Street Parkway, Suite 103 in a Neighborhood Office (NPO) district.
City planning staff told the council that Sozo Therapy has been operating in the building for a couple of years without the formal special use permit required for a medical clinic at that location. Staff reviewed tenant mix and parking and recommended approval to bring the tenant into compliance.
Owner Richard (Rick) Pressley said the clinic provides mental‑health care and described the staff licensures. "While our practice qualifies as a medical office, the property is not currently zoned ... to permit this type of use without a special permit. So that's why we're seeking this and getting it all cleared up," Pressley said. He added the practice employs licensed professional counselors and marriage and family therapists.
Council member Mark moved to adopt an ordinance approving a five‑year special use permit; Bill seconded the motion and the council voted aye with no recorded opposition. The special use permit is effective going forward and may be renewed according to the city's permit procedures.
The council record shows no complaints about the clinic's operation; staff will continue to monitor parking and tenant impacts consistent with standard special‑use conditions.
