The Vanderburgh County Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals voted Nov. 5 to accept the county's recommendation to reduce the assessed value of the property at 6308 Day Road by $34,900 following a site inspection completed in August 2025.
Taxpayer Timothy Mayer told the board he purchased the house to keep it in the family and discovered extensive mold and water problems; he said the house is largely gutted and "75% demoed" with missing flooring, kitchen cabinets and drywall stripped to studs. Mayer said he has not completed renovations and does not plan to rent or flip the house.
County staff told the board the site inspection led to data corrections and that, given the condition observed, the assessor placed the house in poor condition which supported a reduction in assessed value. Following a motion to accept the county's recommendation the board voted to adopt the reduction; the motion passed with two votes in favor and one opposed.
The board recorded no additional actions on the property at the Nov. 5 hearing beyond accepting the county's recommended reduction.
