Public Art Committee approves artist Jennifer Geiger to wrap Arlington Park Wi-Fi boxes

Jennifer Geiger, a local graphic artist experienced in utility-box wrapping, will design and produce two vinyl wraps for Wi-Fi transmitter boxes at Arlington Park, the Public Art Committee approved Nov. 5.

Geiger presented two concepts: a "camo bunnies" design that leans on the park—s palette of greens and a bird-themed design that incorporates brighter colors found on site. She told the committee she has completed more than 30 installed traffic-utility projects nationwide and that the proposed wraps are printed and laminated with UV protection; typical expected life is about five years.

Mark Hamilton, Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex general manager, said the park is an active community destination and welcomed the visual improvement to the visible Wi-Fi infrastructure. Committee members asked about durability, rewrapping costs and options to include a small artist signature or label to link the work to the city—s public-art tour; staff said that identification and a digital link could be added on a corner of the wrap and that future programs could intentionally allocate a wrap for youth or community-led designs.

The committee moved to approve the artist and the budget as proposed; the motion passed unanimously. Staff will finalize printing and installation details and will coordinate the wraps with park operations.
