Jackson County supervisors approve permits, claims and a three-year agreement; routine items pass unanimously

Jackson County supervisors on Nov. 4 approved a set of routine permits, claims and an intergovernmental agreement, and directed the City of Miles to assume responsibility for a local storm-sewer repair.

The board approved a utility and right-of-way permit allowing an underground secondary service for Amy Kurtenbach along 140th Avenue in Otter Creek Township after staff characterized the request as routine. Chair Don Swinker called for the vote and the motion carried.

Supervisors also considered a storm-sewer repair on 500th Avenue in the City of Miles. Staff reported the city has an available fund balance and receives $20,000 a year in FM extension payments from the county; the board moved that the City of Miles be responsible for the storm-sewer repair and approved that motion.

The board approved claims and the auditor’s request to issue warrants and publish the claims listing in the amount of $222,210.75; the report included two larger payments (about $60,000 for jail interest and about $40,000 in rock and related expenses) and otherwise routine expenditures.

The county recorder’s office reported $42,548.14 in fees collected for October; the board accepted and placed the report on file and authorized the chair and auditor to sign.

The board approved the minutes of the Oct. 28 proceedings and work session as written by Audre Smith and authorized publication in the official newspapers.

Finally, the board approved and authorized chair and auditor signatures on a three-year agreement between Jackson County and Together We Build Inc. for fiscal years 2026–2028, effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028; county staff said this continues a previously established annual payment schedule.

All votes recorded in the meeting were voice votes; the chair called for aye/oppose and motions carried with unanimous ayes in each instance.
