Greene County approves budget amendment to fund AMI meter upgrade

Greene County commissioners unanimously approved a capital project budget amendment to fund an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) upgrade with contractor Mueller.
Moore, the staff member who presented the item, said the county will use previously withheld retainage from a prior construction contract and run the work through an open capital project. He told commissioners he had secured the finance director’s blessing for the approach and that the county has received delivery of some equipment and expects the contractor to mobilize and complete most work in about four months.
Moore said the upgrade will replace transmitters and other system hardware and may include a limited number of repeaters placed on existing signage along state Department of Transportation roads; the county will not bear the cost for those sign-mounted repeaters. Commissioners moved and seconded the budget amendment and approved it on a voice vote.
The amendment authorizes the county to proceed under the previously agreed pricing with Mueller and to manage the upgrade as a capital project.
