Commissioners approve multiple public-safety tower upgrades funded from wireless funds

Crawford County commissioners on Oct. 8 approved multiple public-safety radio-tower purchases and installation costs presented by public-safety staff. The line items covered equipment replacement, transportation and installation and channel relocation work for county tower sites.
Public-safety staff described the purchases as funded from county wireless funds. Items approved included a 4-channel antenna combiner for the Dutch Hill Tower site ($10,885); transportation and offloading costs for a shelter and generator for the Greece Road Tower project ($11,530); installation of chain-link fencing and gates for Greece Road ($24,325); an ice bridge and installation of an underground grounding ring for Greece Road ($16,825); finishing work including geogrid and gravel ($12,888); and payment to Global Comm for relocation of Government West and Police West channels from Agnew Road to Greece Road Tower ($38,695). Each item was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
Commissioner Shell noted the wireless fund is a county-designated funding source and said the fund’s availability spares the general fund from these expenditures. "All these line items from Greg's all were coming from wireless funds," Shell said. Public-safety staff confirmed the funding source and the board recorded its approvals by roll call.
The purchases will be implemented by the county’s public-safety and communications teams, with vendors contracted to perform the specified transport, installation and channel-relocation work.
