The Graham County Board of Supervisors approved a zoning map amendment on Nov. 3, 2025, that changes a parcel at the corner of Second Avenue and Center Street in Solomon from MX (mixed‑use) to AR‑30. Planning & Zoning staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the change unanimously to allow the applicant to divide the parcel and build a house for her son.
Planning & Zoning director Steve McGaughy told the board the parcel was rezoned decades ago and that the MX designation does not allow the residential use the applicant seeks. McGaughy said the parcel was likely rezoned for past agricultural uses, including feedlot activity, and that the community has since settled into a residential pattern. The director said no neighbors had submitted comments either for or against the request.
Board members spoke in support. Vice Chairman Paul David described the change as “putting it back where it needs to be,” noting the rezone aligns the parcel with surrounding residential properties. One supervisor noted the applicant’s long community service, including food backpack efforts for students, as background supporting the request. With no public comment in opposition, the board approved the rezoning by voice vote.
