District launches community conversation series to shape five-year strategic plan

Newton County Schools on Tuesday announced a months-long series of community conversations and targeted outreach to inform its next five-year strategic plan.
Bill Rountree presented the engagement plan, saying the goal is to "invite and elevate community voice" and to ensure participation is substantive rather than symbolic. Rountree gave dates for large community conversations: Newton High School on Nov. 10, 2025; Eastside High School on Jan. 15, 2026; and Alcovey High School on March 16, 2026. He said the sessions and related meetings with civic organizations, faith-based groups and business partners will be led by the superintendent and executive cabinet and that staff will reconvene to share results and next steps.
Board members emphasized scheduling accessibility for working families and commuters. Rountree confirmed sessions will begin at 06:30 p.m. to allow broader participation and said staff will return to the board with engagement results.
The engagement effort will be a primary input to the new strategic plan, which the board and leadership intend to use to align priorities across academics, operations and community partnerships.
