Superintendent highlights traffic, PTO and student activities in September update

The superintendent reported that traffic congestion during morning drop‑off and afternoon pickup remains a district priority and said staff are working with local police to develop recommendations to improve traffic flow, especially at the rear of DEO where narrow streets and recent construction have worsened congestion. "Please be patient," the superintendent said, noting that wait times of 10–15 minutes are not uncommon during peak periods.
The superintendent praised community support and fundraising: PTOs across buildings and the New Milford Education Foundation together have helped fund legacy projects such as air conditioner purchases, playground installations and a studio donation for Milford High School broadcasting. The superintendent said the Ed Foundation donated more than $100,000 over recent years for teacher grants, technology and facility projects and thanked volunteers and staff for their contributions.
Student activities and athletics were also covered. The assistant superintendent relayed a student note that freshman orientation and grade‑level meetings have gone well; the district reminded families about an upcoming club fair on Sept. 25 and a homecoming dance on Oct. 11. Athletics updates included records for football, soccer, tennis, volleyball and cross country; marching band and color guard preparations were also noted.
Community events announced by a municipal representative included Family Fun Day, a fishing derby, Clean Communities Day and a domestic violence awareness symposium planned for Oct. 22. The board noted these community partnerships and adjourned; the next board work session is scheduled for Oct. 15.
