Louisa County’s veterans services officer reported to the board on Oct. 14 that 107 veterans and four surviving dependents are receiving assistance, representing roughly 28% of the county’s stated veteran population. The officer said the program is distributing about $350,000 per month in assistance.
The report cited a county total of 554 veterans and noted outreach challenges in getting additional veterans to apply for services. The officer said the department’s budget is about 84% spent for the year but expects to have a surplus in the soldiers’ relief fund and noted upcoming training and conference schedules.
Veterans Day plans were discussed; the officer proposed coordinating with the high school band and recommended scheduling the county event either on Veterans Day or the nearest weekday to encourage attendance. He also noted he will be out next week for travel and that some veteran services training events and conference dates are forthcoming.
No formal votes were taken on events or expenditures during the meeting.
