Louisa County roads department: paving season complete, overpass removal plan and equipment repair needs

The Louisa County roads superintendent updated the board on Oct. 14 that this year’s paving and striping work is complete and that crews are transitioning to winter and cleanup projects.
The superintendent said the G28 project and other local paving have been finished and payments are being processed. He described a multi-step plan to remove an overpass: cut back the hill, relocate trees and fill material, break and remove concrete, reduce bridge walls to grade and place rock cover. Work will be performed by contractors familiar with demolition and hauling; on-site crews will handle log burning and debris cleanup.
Equipment needs were discussed. Staff reported a backup motor grader from about 2000–2001 has a failed transmission with a repair estimate of about $40,000; full replacement would cost roughly $300,000. The superintendent’s plan is to repair the transmission to keep a usable backup, then schedule replacement and rotation in future budget years.
No county action was taken at the meeting; staff said planned concrete work at the shop and fall surveys remain scheduled.
