Lynn explores up to $5M state grant to expand CTE pathways; district targets LVTI and business technology

The district is exploring several candidate programs: environmental science and technology and public safety (criminal justice focus) at Lynn Vocational Technical Institute (LVTI), and new business-technology Chapter 74 pathways at Lynn Classical and Lynn English high schools. District presenters said business technology ranked high in earlier interest surveys and that existing business pathways have long wait lists.
Grant funds are primarily intended for construction and equipment modernization; the program duration described in materials runs from Dec. 18, 2025 to June 30, 2028. Eligibility preferences may favor schools that have not received prior facility grants. Presenters noted startup costs and limited staff funding can be supported by the grant and said they will create site walk-through estimates and complete draft and final applications (draft deadline Oct. 24; final Oct. 30, 2025).
Committee members asked about teacher and labor-partner input, footprint limitations at the comprehensive high schools and future options for trades shops; presenters said that some shop programs require larger floor areas and related spaces not available at the comprehensive schools, but LVTI could host expanded programming. District staff will continue planning, consult principals and ISD on equipment estimates, and prepare the grant submission.
