Sheriff reports recruitment progress; county K-9 expenses moved into operating budget

The Northampton County sheriff reported on Nov. 5 that staffing for next year is expected to remain roughly the same but that the department is still short of a full complement and actively recruiting.
"We are actually 3 full time positions away from having full complement," the sheriff said and added the department was working to fill part-time and full-time vacancies (00:11:03).
Council members repeatedly asked about the K-9 program. The sheriff said K-9 expenses are funded from program operating costs and do not appear as a separate expense line in the draft budget for next year. "It comes out of the program operating cost part of the budget," the sheriff said (00:12:03).
No formal vote or policy change was made during the exchange; the remarks were part of the departmental budget review.
