Council praises deputy marshal who performed Heimlich maneuver; acting marshal to seek lifesaving award

Councilman Cody Poindexter called for recognition, saying Whitmire "is one of the most kindhearted individuals" and commending his quick action. Acting Marshal Daniel Mead described the incident: the elder choked, Whitmire performed the Heimlich, the elder regained consciousness, and emergency medical services evaluated the person and the elder returned to the event.
"I am gonna be putting him up for a lifesaving award for that," Mead said. Council members, including Councilor Carlson and Councilman Hall, offered thanks and praised training that enabled the response. No formal action was required; Mead said he would process the lifesaving award nomination.
