Tax commission reports rebate processing progress and 10% motor vehicle revenue increase; signage removed at Tahlequah office

Sharon Swepston, director of the Tax Commission, told the Tribal Council that rebate-processing problems have improved and that motor vehicle revenues are running about 10% ahead of last year.
Swepston said the commission has approved 3,408 rebate applications; roughly 1,700 of those have been processed through finance and are paid or ready to be paid, and about 1,708 approved applications remain to be paid. She reported 1,364 applications were denied as ineligible and 389 applications remained pending in the portal at the time of her report. "So that's a drastic improvement from what it was last month," she said.
Council members asked follow-up questions about signage at the Tahlequah Tax Commission office and about temporary tags. Swepston said the problematic signage had been removed or covered and that facilities were working to install corrected signs. On temporary motor-vehicle tags, she said dealerships generally handle temporary tags for customers; issues arise more often when a private seller is involved and the buyer must obtain temporary registration directly.
The council asked Swepston to try to pull data showing how many rebate recipients are "at-large" citizens outside the Nation's enhanced jurisdiction; she agreed to attempt to provide that breakdown.
