Engineers: pumps and force mains adequate; additional wet well likely best path for Suquamish Valley Health lift station

Patrick Fry, project engineer, briefed the committee on the Suquamish Valley Health lift station study. Fry said the team collected and analyzed field data and concluded the station pumps are adequately sized and force mains do not require upsizing. As a result, staff recommended adding an additional wet well rather than larger pumps, a solution that reduces design alternatives and is likely to lower project cost.
Fry said the pumps are rated for 750 gallons per minute and that measured flows fell in the 700s GPM range during testing; the force mains were found adequately sized. "It doesn't look like we need to upsize that, which essentially just means all we need to do is upsize the wet well," Fry told the committee. He said that because the alternatives analysis no longer needs to include multiple full 30% designs, the project will come in under earlier budget projections.
Committee members asked about coordination with the adjacent hospital and the project schedule; Fry said staff has not yet contacted hospital representatives and that staff expects to return with more detailed designs and a contract request in January.
