Parks staff briefed the public works committee on operations and maintenance at Love Hatbox Sports Complex on Nov. 3 and said the complex is seeing strong interest from tournament directors for 2026.
The presenter (Brooke) said staff met with youth baseball, softball and soccer leagues and welcomed a new cricket user group this year. Staff reported that tournaments in 2025 were hosted by city staff, leagues and independent tournament directors; for 2026, six tournament directors have expressed interest and staff had received more than 25 tournament requests.
Brooke said field maintenance and routine repairs are ongoing and the sports crew received compliments for field work. She identified a list of immediate upgrades that will require funding and a longer list of higher‑cost future improvements; staff recommended reviewing the current budget and considering midyear funding for urgent items.
Several commissioners noted that league representatives thought the meeting was scheduled for next Monday and were not present. The committee suggested placing the item on a future city council agenda so league leaders can attend and discuss specific repair needs directly with council members. No formal action was taken.
