Evangelista, appearing with an interpreter, told the board the business would offer eight washers and five dryers, would operate roughly 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, employ a single attendant on the premises, and feature non-illuminated signage painted on a window. He said the laundromat would serve neighborhood residents, including tenants in the apartments above the site, and would be open to others in the immediate area.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the space and signage and heard that the proposed sign would comply with city requirements and be non-illuminated. No testimony indicated the use would create the kind of adverse impacts that would bar approval under the zoning rules. The board moved, seconded and approved the special exception subject to standard permits, licenses and compliance with applicable building and safety codes.
Evangelista was advised to secure necessary city permits and conduct the work in accordance with code requirements before opening.
