Committee members said they have refined a concept design and are seeking updated quotes and plan sets (TF Moran) so the project can move to bidding if voters approve a bond. Committee members emphasized the need for interim mitigations at the crosswalk that suffers morning sun glare and limited visibility; the town police and fire departments have discussed short-term signage and placement changes, and the state Department of Transportation provided a preliminary cost for a DOT-standard fix (committee quoted a DOT estimate around $35,000 for some short-term work, and cautioned that DOT work could be costlier and require ADA ramp adjustments).
The committee asked the board to consider packaging paving with the safety project in a single bond so the town does not later need to fund paving separately; several members said the committee’s consensus was to keep the overall bond near $500,000. Board members discussed optically how adding paving to the operating budget would affect local taxpayers and noted the trade-offs of placing paving in the local budget versus the bond.
The committee invited police and fire leadership to the next safety meeting; the board agreed to invite Chief and Fire leadership to the Nov. 10 safety-committee meeting at 6 p.m. to review the design, short-term mitigations and estimated costs. No bond warrant was finalized at the Nov. 4 meeting; committee and staff will return with cost breakdowns and a proposed warrant article for the board’s December meeting and the March vote.
