The Logansport City Board of Public Works and Safety on Nov. 5 approved an update to the city's Pavement Asset Management Plan from HWC Engineering that staff said is required to pursue state Community Crossings grant funding.
Chad of HWC Engineering explained that the firm will drive streets and evaluate them on a 1-to-10 scale, with 10 representing the best condition and 1 the worst. "They will drive the roads... evaluate them on a scale from 1 to 10," Chad said. He advised that funding usually targets the lowest-rated streets. "When people ask why isn't my street paved, it's typically because it's in good condition," Chad said, adding that roads rated 6 or higher often are not eligible for immediate funds unless traffic volumes or other factors justify prioritization.
City staff said the work is budgeted and that the PAMP update allows Logansport to apply for competitive paving funds. The board approved the update by unanimous vote.

The PAMP update positions Logansport to apply for state grant money for street resurfacing; the ratings will be used to prioritize projects for future construction.
