Board approves renaming Hector Acafaretta school to Hector Acafaretta Junior K–8

The Lee County School Board approved renaming Hector Acafaretta Junior Elementary School to Hector Acafaretta Junior K–8 at its Nov. 4 meeting, following a motion to suspend Board Policy 72-50 that previously restricted the use of "K–8" in school names.
Mr. Fisher moved to suspend the policy and approve the renaming so the district can proceed with planned expansion to include grades 6–8 for the 2026–27 school year; Miss Chaviano seconded. The board conducted a roll-call vote and approved the request 7–0. Superintendent Dr. Christopher Carlin said the school has been operating in portables and the district does not want to delay the change.
Approval authorizes the superintendent to execute related documents and the district will proceed with implementation consistent with the cited timeline for expansion.
