Utilities director outlines comp‑plan kickoff, wastewater plant progress and grant for grinder stations

The utilities director briefed the board on upcoming planning and capital projects, including a Dec. 13 joint workshop with Central Florida Regional Planning that will serve as a kickoff for the town—s comprehensive-plan update toward 2050.
Staff reported that wastewater treatment plant construction is on track for a Feb. 26 completion, that a water-service pump at Highway Park has been installed and that one pump for Tomoka Heights is delayed. The director said the town received grant funding to install about 35 grinder stations that will allow some private-property connections to the sewer at low cost.
The director also noted a proposed utility-rate ordinance will be presented to town council for first and second readings in coming weeks and that staff are promoting from within to fill operational vacancies.
Board members were invited to view the wastewater project site; staff said they will bring updates to the board as construction milestones are reached.
