Public urges review of first-aid and EMS coverage after visitor stung at Carriage Barns art festival

A member of the public told the Parks Commission she was stung by a yellow jacket at the Carriage Barns art festival and said it took an extended period to get ice and first-aid assistance at the event.
Kathy Mitchell described multiple yellow jackets at the festival and said volunteers and patrons could not identify where first aid was located. "I got stung...I wanted to have ice...nobody knew where first aid was," she said. Mitchell said she later sought care from a doctor.
John, a Parks staff member, said the festival had an EMS crew assigned but that an immediate medical crew may have been called away to a different call during the event. He said staff will hold an after-action meeting and will bring up the need to ensure a visible first-aid/EMS presence at future events.
Commissioners thanked the speaker and asked staff to review the festival's event staffing and medical coverage. No further action was taken during the meeting; staff said they would address the issue in the after-action review.
