Steve Glimp, parks and grounds maintenance manager, gave a ward-by-ward update at the Nov. 4 commission meeting.
Ward 1: Repainted splash pad at Gary Dexter; planned Bob Baskin pickleball court conversion and handball court resurfacing.
Ward 2: Installed AED units on six soccer fields and will replace Angel Park Trail signage.
Ward 3: Installed secureable pedestrian gates at JC Levitt and are modifying vehicle gates to prevent pedestrian passage when closed; upcoming work at Rafael Rivera.
Ward 4: Shade replacement at Majestic and ongoing work at the police memorial playground.
Ward 5: Volunteer group painted fence at Ethel Pearson Park; resurfacing planned for park courts.
Ward 6: An Eagle Scout project removed approximately a quarter mile of barbed wire fence; Bradley Bridal Park parking lot will be regraded and compacted.
Glipm answered commissioner questions about project timelines. He estimated the Bob Baskin pickleball project would take about a month but said no firm dates were available yet. For Bradley Bridal Park work, Glimp said the department will post signs roughly two weeks before work begins; he tentatively anticipated early December for that job. Commissioners also asked about materials to reduce heat island effects; Glimp discussed wood mulch, bonded rubber mulch and FlexPave and noted the tradeoffs between cost and material migration.
No formal action was taken; the update was informational.
