Library Director Carolyn Childs told the Gunnison Civic Library Board on Sept. 29 that she plans to retire at the end of October. The board discussed hiring options and unanimously voted on a package of motions to limit participation in the hiring process and to offer the director position to an internal candidate.
Minutes state the board discussed different options for filling the director role and expressed a preference to appoint Angela Leatherwood based on her knowledge and experience with the library. The minutes say Carolyn Childs will continue to volunteer while the new director and any new board member adjust to their roles.
The board approved three recorded motions, each by unanimous vote: a motion not to open the hiring process to the public; a motion not to open the hiring process to other Gunnison City employees; and a motion to offer the position to Angela Leatherwood. Stella Hill moved the motion to keep the process closed to the public and Kristi Jensen seconded; Stella Hill moved the limitation to other city employees and Karen Donaldson seconded; Rachael Larson moved to offer the position to Leatherwood and Marci Childs seconded. The minutes record unanimous votes on all motions.
