The bill, Johnson said, incorporates an amendment from Senator Blackman to ensure task force members represent different school districts so the group can reflect statewide variation in resources and attitudes toward AI. “Some districts have less resources or more resources. Some districts may have more of a fear of using AI, and some may be overzealous in using AI in education,” Johnson said, describing the goal of finding “a path that works for students to better prepare them to use AI in their life.”
A committee member asked where the task force report would be submitted. Johnson said the findings would be sent to multiple recipients and later clarified that the report would go to the lieutenant governor and the speaker of the house. Johnson described the task force’s product as recommendations that would inform policy options for the legislature.
