Alyssa Sargassan, chair of the Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission, said the commission plans to expand its public-art programs in 2025 and highlighted a 2024 project called Reimagining the Colloquial that repurposes remnants of a historic ferry.
Sargassan said she joined the commission "because as an artist with more than 20 years of experience, I know how important art is, how it connects people, inspires people, and uplifts the community." She described the 2024 effort as "a project called reimagining the colloquial" that gives new life to ferry remnants and aims to honor local history.
"It truly lives up to its name, reimagining the calacula, and it will give a new life to, the remnants. And I hope they will be loved by the community and enjoyed by future generations," Sargassan said.
Looking ahead to 2025, Sargassan cited the Park Lane outdoor sculpture gallery, an ongoing exhibition she said has been running for 10 years with a two-year rotating display. "Every year, we chose, 6 artists. But this year, we're gonna do something more than that," she said, adding the commission has "secured, funding from for culture that is going to allow us to get more artists involved and more beautiful artwork to, be added to Kirkland's daily life." The funding source name is reported as stated in the conversation and was not further specified.
The interview was an overview of recent and planned public-art activity; no formal votes, ordinances, or contract awards were discussed during the recorded segment.
