Polk County commissioners on Feb. 19 adopted Ordinance No. 25-01 to create the office of county accountant and appointed Caitlin D'Agostini to the position.
Mr. Smith, a staff member, read the ordinance at the second reading, saying, “the Polk County Board of Commissioners hereby establishes the office of the county accountant.” The ordinance directs that D'Agostini “shall qualify for this position pursuant to the requirements of ORS 210.12 by executing a bond in the sum of $20,000” and by taking an oath with the Polk County Clerk within 30 days of the ordinance's effective date.
The ordinance assigns the office the duties outlined in ORS Chapter 210 and includes a severability clause. A scrivener's error in the statutory citation from the first reading was corrected before adoption, staff said. Commissioner Bridal moved to adopt the ordinance and another commissioner seconded. The board voted in favor; the motion carried unanimously.
The action establishes both a new county office and an immediate appointment. The ordinance text specifies the bond amount and the 30-day requirement for the oath; it does not list an effective date beyond the standard procedural language read at the meeting.
