During commissioner comments on Aug. 18, board members read and praised an email commending Rockingham County EMS personnel for responding to a 7-month-old in cardiac arrest and helping to save the child.
The letter, read by a commissioner, named EMTs and medics who responded: Daniel Austin, Drew Lucas, Hannah Bullins and Bobby Caton. The commissioner described units M2 and M3 arriving together, EMS staff providing CPR en route, and the patient's pulse and breathing returning before air transport was arranged. The reading said EMS personnel stayed to assist hospital staff; the presentation commended the persistence and professionalism of EMS, dispatch (CECOM), sheriff's deputies and the receiving hospital.
Commissioner Richardson and others noted that Rockingham County Deputy Matthew Royles was an initial responder and praised the combined effort of EMS and the sheriff's office. Commissioners said they plan to recognize the responders at a future meeting.
No formal resolution was adopted during the meeting; the recognition was described as planned for a subsequent session.
