Copperas Cove honors long‑tenured employees and a retiring library staffer

City Manager Ryan Haverlaw presented employee service awards and a retirement recognition during the Sept. 2, 2025, Copperas Cove City Council workshop.
Haverlaw introduced a series of recognitions highlighting more than a century of combined service across multiple departments. Honorees included Joshua Simmons, chief plant operator in wastewater treatment (five years); Jose Velasco, custodian and former animal control officer (20 years); Chad Cuellar, chief plant operator, wastewater treatment (20 years); Thomas Brooks Jr., wastewater treatment superintendent (20 years); Shannon Thompson, executive secretary in police communications (25 years); and Roger Beckris, fleet services superintendent (25 years). Haverlaw summarized each employee—s career path and contributions to city operations.
The council also recognized Anita Schultz, who retired after 23 years as a library staff member. Library Director Kevin Marsh presented a framed art piece and a mayoral coin; Haverlaw said Schultz chose not to speak.
These recognitions were ceremonial. No votes or policy actions were taken during the segment.
