Wilkes County commissioners enter closed session on personnel matter; no action taken

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Sept. 2 to go into a closed session to discuss qualifications, competence or conditions of employment for a county employee under G.S. § 143-318.11(a)(6).
Vice Chairman Bill Sexton made the motion to enter closed session; Commissioner Hardin Kennedy seconded the motion and the board approved it unanimously. Assistant County Attorney Brooke Church and Clerk to the Board Sarah Call left the meeting before the board entered closed session.
The board returned to open session on a motion by Commissioner Evan Handy, seconded by Commissioner Casey Joe Johnson; the minutes state that no action was taken while in closed session. The special called meeting was then adjourned at 4:00 p.m. by unanimous vote on a motion by Handy, seconded by Casey Johnson.
The meeting record lists Chair Shirley Randleman, Vice Chairman Bill Sexton, Commissioner Casey Joe Johnson, Commissioner Evan Handy and Commissioner Hardin Kennedy as present, along with County Attorney Tony Triplett and County Manager John Yates. The meeting minutes were approved Sept. 16, 2025.
