House holds pro forma session in Annapolis, reads introductory bills and adjourns until Feb. 3

Annapolis, Maryland — The House convened a pro forma session Jan. 30, 2025, during which clerks read a series of introductory bills and referred them to standing committees before adjourning until Monday, Feb. 3, at 8 p.m.

Clerks read several grouped batches of bills on the consent calendar. The first group included House Bill 905, sponsored by Delegate White Holland and referred to the Health and Government Operations Committee; the body considered reading House bills 905 through 949. The second group began with House Bill 950, sponsored by Delegate Wilson and assigned to the Judiciary Committee; the House considered House bills 950 through 979. The third group began with House Bill 980, listed with sponsor Crosby and referred to the Appropriations Committee; the House considered bills 980 through 1,009. In each case the clerk announced the bills were read the first time and referred to the appropriate committee after hearing no objection.

The clerk also introduced House Joint Resolution 6 (sponsored by Delegate Williams) and two introductory House bond initiatives (Nos. 23 and 24), which were referred to the Appropriations Committee. A message from the Senate was read; the clerk identified a Senate bill associated with Senator Hayes and said it was referred to the Ways and Means Committee. The clerk noted that all committee bill hearings are listed on the Maryland General Assembly website.

At the close of the short session the majority leader moved that the House adjourn until Monday, Feb. 3, at 8 p.m.; the motion was put and the House recessed.

There was no recorded debate on the measures during this pro forma session; the actions taken were procedural referrals and introductions.
