Greene County board accepts $45,000 economic development grant, appoints transportation chair and adopts 2025 schedule

Greene County commissioners approved several administrative items at their Dec. 2 meeting, including accepting a $45,000 grant to fund a new economic development strategic plan, appointing a new chair of the Greene County Transportation Committee, and adopting the county’s 2025 meeting and holiday schedules.

Tres Cash, a county official, told commissioners that “Greene County was recently awarded $45,000 for a new economic development strategic plan,” with $30,000 coming from the North Carolina Department of Commerce and $15,000 from the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission. He asked the board to accept the grant; the board approved the acceptance by voice vote.

The county manager reported that the Greene County Transportation Committee had unanimously nominated Harold Thomas to serve as its chair to meet the committee’s bylaws, which disallow an elected official serving as chair; the board approved Thomas’s appointment by voice vote.

In a separate vote, commissioners changed the board’s evening meeting start time from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the 2025 calendar; the motion carried by voice vote. The board also approved a 2025 holiday schedule that aligns with the state schedule and acknowledged the trash convenience sites’ holiday schedule under contract (information provided to the board).
