Union Chapel social worker Ellie Logan receives district Support Star Award

Ellie Logan, the school social worker at Union Chapel Elementary, was presented the district's Support Star Award during a short recognition at the school.
"I am Ellie Logan, and I am the school social worker at Union Chapel Elementary. I love removing barriers for families. I love being someone at school that the families can trust and rely on and hopefully reach out to when things are hard and when they might not know who to reach out to at school," Logan said, describing her role.
The award was announced on camera by Superintendent Dr. Kimbrell, who said she goes "around and recognize[s] all kinds of important adults that are doing awesome work." Dr. Kimbrell read the nomination, saying Logan was described as "an exceptional social worker" who "collaborates with students and families to provide respectful, dignified, and impactful interventions that ensure equitable access to resources," and who "connects families to community resources."
Students who spoke in the recognition also described Logan's impact. One student said, "When I go back to class after seeing miss Logan, I feel better than what I did before. It's always nice whenever I see her smile. It's, it's great. She's like a second mom." Another student credited Logan with teaching positive self-talk.
Dr. Kimbrell noted Logan had been nominated for the award three times. The superintendent also read that the nomination emphasized Logan's ability to "earn the trust of your students, families, and staff while supporting and fostering a supportive school community."
Logan said she felt humbled by the recognition. "I feel like the other social workers in the district are seriously my role models. I have learned so much from them. And then the staff at Union Chapel, they care so much about their students, but not just their students. They care about their families. They care about what's going on outside of school. ... I feel like I'm 1 of a million people who do such good work," she said.
Attendees applauded and exchanged brief thanks after the announcement.
