Graham County approves several facility repairs and purchases, defers certain work to manage costs

Graham County commissioners on Aug. 19 approved a suite of facility and capital items and directed staff to seek cost savings where feasible.
Project Manager Jason Marino said the Sanitation Department shed project is estimated at $357,000. The county holds $100,000 in grant funds and $75,000 in capital outlay, leaving a shortfall; Marino proposed purchasing the building now for $96,000 using grant money and deferring the concrete slab to reduce initial cost. The board approved that purchase unanimously.
The board also approved several repairs and purchases: Elliott Brothers HVAC service at DHHS for $8,804.00; HVAC repair in the administration building for $5,400.00; an awning for the Building Inspections office for $1,550.00; and rental bleachers for $35,675.00. Marino said the EMS base asphalt paving project remains on hold pending available funds, and staff will restripe the DHHS parking lot.
The board approved a request to surplus four Zoll E Series cardiac monitors for disposal only; commissioners recorded no reuse plan for those units in the meeting minutes.
Chair Meggan Smith and Commissioner Natasha Williams emphasized keeping projects affordable and simple; staff were directed to return with more detailed quotes and cost analyses at the next meeting.
