Socorro ISD board canvasses May 3 trustee election, declares four winners

The Socorro Independent School District Board of Trustees on May 12, 2025, approved an order canvassing the May 3 general trustees election and declared four candidates elected to district trustee seats.

Mister Blanco, a district staff member presenting the certified returns, told the board the election returns were received and certified by the elections department and provided the official totals for each district. Board President Michael Najera and trustees present moved forward with the canvass.

The board declared Ryan Reed Woodcraft elected to District 2 with an official total of 347 votes (237 early votes and 110 election-day votes as read). Charles W. Smith was declared elected to District 3 with 190 total votes (125 early, 65 election day). Paul Guetta was declared elected to District 4 with 255 total votes (151 early, 104 election day). Manuel Rodriguez was declared elected to District 5 with 630 total votes (424 early, 206 election day).

Trustee Macias moved "to canvass the results of our trustees that were elected on 05/03/2025." Board President Michael Najera seconded the motion. The board conducted a voice vote; the chair called for "Aye," no opposition was recorded on the audio, and the chair stated the item passed and that the canvass was complete.

There was no substantive debate recorded and no questions about the returns. Trustees offered brief welcoming remarks to the declared winners and thanked current trustees for their service. The board adjourned the canvass meeting and said it would reconvene at 6:00 p.m. for board honors.
