Town amends traffic code to set Averette Road speed limit at 45 mph after NCDOT request

Engineering Director Tim Watson said the change responds to a request from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to create a consistent speed limit along Averette Road where jurisdictional lines overlap. "They're proposing to just make the whole stretch 45 miles per hour," Watson said, adding the change reflects increased traffic volumes and recent land-use changes.
Under the revised ordinance language, the town will replace multiple short segments with a single segment that sets 45 mph from NC 98 (Wade Avenue) to Oak Grove Church Road. The motion to adopt the ordinance was called, seconded and carried unanimously.
