The district’s finance representative updated the board on state-budget uncertainty and short-term cash-management steps.
Finance staff said the state budget had not been finalized "nearly 2 months past the June 30 deadline," delaying routine payments to districts. To manage cash, the state is allowing districts to forego making debt-service payments and instead have the state make them on the district’s behalf; the presenter said taking advantage of that program could save the district "a couple million dollars in the short term." The presenter noted some upcoming debt-service obligations and that the district would consider the state’s debt-intercept option for timing relief.
Board members asked about the district’s cash position. The presenter said the district had roughly $46,000,000 in cash on hand earlier in the year; they did not provide an exact year-end cash total during the presentation and said they would follow up with updated accounting figures. The presenter said operations remain stable and the administration is monitoring legislative items that affect funding but emphasized there is no final state action yet.
Board members discussed the constitutional requirement for a state budget by July 1 and noted the recurring nature of late budgets; the finance presenter said the administration would continue to provide weekly updates as negotiations proceed.
No formal action or vote was taken during the update.
