Polk County authorizes about $200,000 to fund mobile radio installations for public-safety vehicles

Polk County Commissioners Court on July 8 authorized certification of roughly $200,000 from surplus revenues and general‑fund capital outlay to pay for installation of mobile radios for sheriff, constable and emergency‑management vehicles.

County staff reported they solicited quotes for installation and had received two proposals; the total project certification was estimated at about $200,000 to complete the work. Staff recommended using surplus funds such as depository interest, tax‑sale proceeds and other receipts now on hand so the installations are not piecemealed over multiple budgets. The court voted to authorize the purchase and to draw funds now, with the intent to replenish the capital line item later in the fiscal year once revenues are formally posted.

The court approved the funding authorization by motion. Staff said they will return with exact numbers and a proposed allocation of funds among the jail camera project, sheriff's equipment and road-and‑bridge maintenance as part of subsequent budget reporting.
