Council sets 5.01% employee health-insurance increase for 2025–26

Bryan City Council on July 7 adopted Resolution No. 34-2025, setting the annual premium rates for city employee health insurance for the policy year beginning Sept. 1, 2025, and declaring an emergency.
City staff said they and the mayor met with representatives from Risk Strategies and recommended renewing with Medical Mutual of Ohio. Insurers initially proposed an increase just under 10 percent, staff said, but after review the city is signing an overall increase of 5.01 percent.
Under the rates presented, single-coverage payroll deductions will increase from $43.78 to $45.97 per pay period, and family coverage will rise from $119.78 to $125.78 per pay period (approximately $2 and $6 per pay, respectively). A staff member described anything in the single digits as "pretty good" in the current claims year.
Council voted to suspend the rules and adopt the resolution; the motion carried with all members present voting in favor. Staff said there were no other significant plan changes in the proposal presented at the meeting.
