A board member reported that the Central Lions vision-screening program used 'spot' screening technology at Ash Creek, Independence Elementary School and MES and screened roughly 1,500 students over three days.
The presenter said the technology allowed staff to screen students in special education classes who previously could not complete traditional vision tests. The screening produced an estimated referral rate of 15 to 20 percent for follow-up vision care. The board member said students who lack medical insurance are referred to the KX Kids Fund, which provides glasses at no cost.
Board members praised the partnership and discussed opportunities for board members to observe future screenings.
