Clovis to accept updated Purdue/Sackler settlement funds for behavioral health center

City Attorney (Mister Morris) provided an update on the city’s participation in statewide opioid settlement agreements, noting the most recent restructured Purdue/Sackler settlement increased the total from an earlier figure to about $7.4 billion overall. Documents cited New Mexico’s allocation at $40,152,910; the city attorney’s calculation showed the combined Clovis/Curry County share would be about $230,778.85, with the city’s portion roughly 0.910% and the county’s 0.495% of the local allocation share split referenced in prior participation agreements.
Mister Morris said prior settlements have been paid over time and that the new agreement contemplates 15 equal payments over 16 years. He noted that when the city signed the statewide participation agreement in 2022 it agreed to accept future settlements under that framework.
Commissioners moved and seconded approval of the updated settlement participation; the motion passed unanimously. Mayor Morris and commissioners stated that the city has already designated opioid settlement funds to support Horizon Behavioral Health Center work, and that additional funds would be directed to that project as previously agreed.
