First New Mexico Cup draws thousands to Clovis, organizer says

He and Mercadol said the tournament drew roughly 2,300 out‑of‑town visitors and an estimated total attendance of 3,500–3,600 people, with some visitors coming from as far away as New Orleans. Organizers paid cash prizes including a reported $30,000 grand prize and smaller awards for second, third and youth winners.
Commissioners praised the event, encouraged organizers to apply for larger grants and said city staff could help with promotion and permitting. Staff noted some unexpected scale required additional cleanup and coordination with parks and public works, and they pledged to work with organizers to streamline paperwork and support future dates (organizers mentioned a plan for October).
