Committee approves adding 3.36 acres in Bath Township to Bath–Akron–Fairlawn JED

The City of Akron Planning and Economic Development Committee voted to approve an ordinance adding parcels at 3455 to 3465 Granger Road and 845 Y Road in Bath Township to the Bath–Akron–Fairlawn Joint Economic Development (JED) District. The ordinance, read into the record by Scribe Viviano, also authorizes the mayor or his designee to amend the Bath–Akron–Fairlawn JED agreement and declares an emergency.

Presenter Susie Grama Moore told the committee the parcels total about 3.36 acres and are currently used for commercial purposes. She said the intent is to include the parcels in the JED so that tax revenue from those properties can be collected and shared among JED members. Moore said Bath Township has already approved adding the parcels and that the City of Fairlawn is expected to take up corresponding legislation in August.

Committee members asked whether the proposed addition includes the same terms and conditions used in previous JED agreements; Moore replied that the terms remain the same. With no other substantive questions, the committee moved the item on consent. The motion passed by voice vote; committee members signaled "aye."

The ordinance as presented authorizes the mayor or designee to amend the JED agreement to add the listed parcels. The record does not include a roll-call tally of individual council votes for this item; the committee approved the measure by consensus on the consent recommendation.

Further approvals by other JED members are required before the expansion takes effect. Bath Township has approved the addition; Fairlawn’s council action is pending.
