On Nov. 4, 2025, Farmers Branch councilmembers discussed whether to remove the recurring agenda item that allows the mayor and council members to report on board‑liaison activities and outside meetings.
Councilman Reid described long meetings and said many residents had told him the recurring reports were often lengthy; he proposed either removing the item or restricting report time. Reid summarized the compromise: “Given that time is critical…a compromise that was discussed is that we retain the item, but utilize the 3 minute comment clock, for that particular item.”
Council members supported the time limit as a balance between transparency and meeting length. Councilwoman Bennett emphasized staff workload, saying staff and their families also face late nights when meetings run long. Several members suggested that council members who need more time should place an individual agenda item or notify the meeting chair in advance.
The council directed staff to impose the three‑minute limit for board‑liaison reports beginning immediately and to add the media‑guideline material to the new‑council orientation packet. There was no formal vote recorded; the change was adopted by consensus and applied to the next agenda item.
Councilmembers then provided concise three‑minute updates on recent events and meetings attended, including Texas Municipal League conferences, DART Silver Line events, local business tours and community programs.
