Pharr accepts 'Healthier Texas' challenge, reports record New Year’s ball drop and community outreach

City communications director Yudy Gonzalez reviewed December outreach: a press conference and a short video introducing Pharr’s whole-blood EMS service, Winter Texans visits to multiple RV parks (about eight locations), and a New Year’s Eve ball drop event that the staff reported drew 10,185 attendees — surpassing last year’s numbers. Commissioners praised staff for organization and resident engagement.
Gonzalez also previewed the city’s 116th birthday celebration scheduled for Jan. 16 downtown, a free public event with cake, music and family activities. Special-events staff said logistics and flyers are available in the meeting packet.
No formal policy changes or budget votes were proposed during the recaps; the items were informational and drew general praise from the commission.
