Student-led Relay For Life raises district attention with $32,000 goal; Springfield team reports $6,000 day of event

"This year was our first year really running it as a club," Walsh said, noting a club size of about 20 to 25 students who meet bi-monthly to plan fundraising activities.
Walsh reported that the Wissahickon Valley Relay For Life reached a $32,000 goal. The Springfield student-run team raised approximately $4,000 during the four-hour event and wrote an additional check for $2,000, for roughly $6,000 in direct contributions from their efforts; online totals were not fully specified in the presentation.
Student captain Ella Walsh said the experience "has been really meaningful" and described learning leadership and event-planning skills through the club. Board members and the superintendent praised the students’ leadership and fundraising results.
Jamie Cohen of the American Cancer Society was unable to attend but was acknowledged by the presenters for organizational support.
