Superintendent: conferences well attended; district reports bus driver shortage

Superintendent Dr. Yannickone reported to the board that fall conferences were well attended and that winter athletics have begun at both the middle and high schools. She also announced that the high school choir is traveling to Montreal and Quebec this weekend and highlighted upcoming family events, including a virtual parent education program titled "Have You Had the Conversation Yet?", a mental health awareness event, and a middle-school yoga session.
Dr. Yannickone said the district is experiencing a shortage of school bus drivers this month. "Mister Bray is working diligently to adjust routes as needed to accommodate all riders and families, both public and private," she said. The district is hiring and training new drivers and will attempt to minimize service impacts to students and families.
She reminded the board that Dec. 20 will be the last school day before the holiday break (a full day) and that schools will reopen on Jan. 2, 2025. The superintendent also recognized the Wissahickon Valley Relay For Life and its student leaders during the spotlight portion of the meeting.
